Katie Gerfen Joins the Softwood Lumber Board (SLB)
The SLB is pleased to announce that Katie Gerfen recently joined our team as Director, Communications. In this role, Katie will be responsible for SLB-wide communications and for leading Think Wood, the SLB-funded campaign that offers commercial, multifamily and single-family home design and construction resources to architects, developers, and contractors, while also showcasing the sustainable principles of wood construction to the larger AEC industry.
Katie brings with her to the SLB nearly two decades of experience in AEC industry communications, with work as a consultant to individual architecture firms and industry associations, and a robust editorial portfolio, including a 15-year tenure covering design at Architect magazine, where she most recently served as its Editor-in-Chief. Architect, the official journal of the American Institute of Architects, is among the leading platforms for industry news and building resources for architects and design professionals in the United States, facilitating over 4.6 million engagements annually. Katie also served as the chief editor for Residential Architect and Custom Home magazines, and as the editor of design at Builder magazine.
Katie takes over Think Wood’s leadership from Kabira Ferrell, who, in her two years as Think Wood’s lead, reshaped the campaign’s strategic approach to focus on lead development. In 2021, the Think Wood campaign generated 1.6 million marketing engagements and produced 22,359 marketing-qualified leads. We look forward to seeing what the SLB’s communication’s and Think Wood’s future holds under Katie’s leadership.
