On Tuesday October 31st Sherm Anderson, Owner of Sun Mountain Lumber, finalized the sale of Livingston’s R-Y Timber Sawmill with the Owner of R-Y Timber, Linda Yanke, and the head of operations for the Yanke family, Bryan Norby.
Sun Mountain Lumber of Deer Lodge Montana is the largest sawmill in Montana and is proud to own the largest fingerjoint plant in North America. They are a high-quality Stud Sawmill that has continued to make major improvements to their facility in Deer Lodge and are dedicated to progressing that trend of investment long into the future. Their willingness to make advances and improvements in the Livingston sawmill will surely guarantee good paying jobs with outstanding benefits in the Livingston area for generations to come.
Sun Mountain has hired Dee Brown to be the New Operations Manager at their Livingston operation. Dee has been working in sawmills for 39 years. He started his career in Idaho and worked in Wyoming and South Dakota before moving to Montana. In his career Dee started out working production jobs and was promoted to his first supervisor position 34 years ago.
R-Y Timber has endured several challenges this last year, with both the Planer and the Sawmill suffering damage due to fires. In July, R-Y’s substation took a direct hit from a lightning strike, which further delayed getting the plant fully operational. Since then, the planer has been rebuilt and repairs are nearing completion on the sawmill. Sun Mountain looks forward to operating both mills in Montana and hopes to be a great new neighbor to everyone in the Livingston community.
