Obituary: Randle Jones

Obituary

Randle Jones passed away peacefully on December 19th at The Madison Care Centre in Coquitlam. As with everything in his life, he did not want to be a bother to anyone and simply slipped away.

He was predeceased in 2017 by his loving wife and partner Fran after 60 years of marriage.

He is survived and will be greatly missed by his three children – Cathy (Ruth), Dave (Pat), Vicki (Mike), his 5 grand children Brad (Becca), Marissa (Matt), Darren, Mitchell, Ben, his great grandchild Ruby and his two half sisters Peggie (James) Terry and Jennifer (Rick) Cicchine and their families.

Randle was born in Victoria to Elisabeth Wilson and Stephen Jones. He graduated from Vic High, Victoria College and then went on to study at UBC (Faculty of Commerce). After working for a couple of lumber firms, Randle had the opportunity to purchase Windsor Building Supplies, a then one-store operation in Surrey. In 1969 the first Windsor Plywood store opened. From this beginning Randle built a small empire of retail stores selling lumber, hardwood, doors, floors and mouldings across Western Canada and the US.

The growth of his company gave Randle great joy and he carried on working well into his eighties. It also enabled him to give back to the community by creating the Windsor Plywood Foundation.

Randle was an unassuming, gentle, humble and generous person. He leaves behind a legacy of community giving that he and Fran took very seriously. Randle was a great mentor to many individuals over the years and he was always more concerned about others than of himself. He also had a wry and witty sense of humour which never failed him.

The family would like to thank the wonderful group of caregivers in Parksville/Qualicum who enabled Dad to stay in the family home of 43 years. They would also like to thank the team at The Madison for their loving care in his final weeks.

There will be a public service in the Spring. In lieu of sending flowers or cards, please donate to the Milner Gardens in Qualicum, the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland: https://www.bigsisters.bc.ca/donate-now/ or CKNW Kid’s Fund.
