Report: United Furniture Industries Lays Off Entire Workforce Monday Night Before Thanksgiving
According to local news reports, United Furniture Industries, Inc. (HQ: Tupelo, MS), informed their entire workforce late in the evening of Monday November 21, 2022, that they were being laid off.
The Daily Journal reports the layoffs include approximately 2,700 employees, “most of whom live in Northeast Mississippi.” It was reported the emailed notice stated “Due to unforeseen business circumstances, the company has been forced to make the difficult decision to terminate the employment of all its employees effective immediately on Nov. 21, 2022, with the exception of over-the-road drivers that are out on delivery. Your layoff from the company is expected to be permanent and all benefits will be terminated immediately without the provision of COBRA.”
