Spahn & Rose Announces Staffing Additions

Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. is proud to announce the addition of a Vice President of Human Resources and a new Director of Purchasing. Lori Hoffmann fills the newly created position of Vice President of Human Resources, and Ivy Su-Johanson has joined Spahn & Rose as the new Director of Purchasing, stepping into the role due to a retirement.

Hoffmann is an accomplished human resources leader with experience in HR Consulting, Employee Relations, Employee Engagement and Staff Retention.

“Lori is an excellent addition to Spahn & Rose,” says Spahn & Rose CEO Dave Davis. “Lori’s expertise in cultivating positive work environments will be a great addition to our company’s growing needs.”

Hoffmann brings more than 20 years of human resources leadership to Spahn & Rose. She previously served as the Executive Director of Human Resources for Buchanan County Health Center.  In addition to her time in healthcare, Hoffmann spent time in higher education, utilities, and a family-owned food distributor.

Hoffmann is finishing her Master’s degree in Communication Studies at the University of Northern Iowa, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management with an emphasis on Human Resources.

Born in Dubuque, Iowa, Hoffmann is one of six children raised on a family dairy farm in rural Peosta. Lori and her husband Shamus have two daughters. Hoffmann enjoys volunteering, spending time with family and friends, traveling and attending her daughter’s soccer games.  Hoffmann started her role with the senior leadership of Spahn & Rose in October 2023.

With over 16 years of experience in direct buying opportunities, inventory management, multi-location purchasing and vendor relations, Su-Johanson is a seasoned purchasing specialist who will contribute significantly to the company’s growth. She brings a wealth of experience to the Spahn & Rose team, having served most recently as Senior Buyer for Theisen’s Home Farm and Auto.

In her role, Su-Johanson will be overseeing purchasing operations. Her expertise is expected to play a crucial role in sourcing products, managing company pricing and optimizing vendor relationships.
